The Enchanting Hine Moana

The Real Pasifik television crew and chefs managed to enjoy a glorious day’s shoot out on the water of Auckland’s Waitamata Harbour last week as Pacific Voyagers took us out on their vaka the Hine Moana.  We were accompanied by renowned Auckland based Tongan chef, Alex Kaihea whose culinary prowess also heightened the magic of the day.

The sun (and the gods so it seemed) were shining on us that day and we hope we managed to capture some of the enchantment and serenity we experienced while out on the vaka.  If the amazing looking and tasting food that Robert, Alex and the other chefs created was anything to go by, then we can assume that they too found the voyage inspirational!

The Hine Moana and its crew are just awe inspiring and we all came back feeling both chilled out and invigorated at the same time.  And actually, after tucking into the awesome feed the chefs put on for us, we also arrived back on shore feeling completely full to the brim too.

Have a look below at some of the beautiful photographs we captured during the day.

John McNicholas (sound), Brendan Withy (director), and DJ Stipsen (DOP) filming on the Hine Moana.

Alex Kaihea and Robert Oliver enjoying the moment.

A windswept Aunofo Havea Satuala – a crew member of the Hine Moana.

The chefs and crew taking a moment to bless the food with a karakia (Maori Prayer) before enjoying the fare.

The devine kokado and taro chips.

Lu Ika – this dish certainly didn’t last long.
